SYNOPSIS
As the show opens we hear an announcement about a new bride for the King and a stepmother for the Princess Snow White. The new Queen quickly shows her conceit and vainness ("Me"). Snow White is talking to the Huntsman about her mother when the new Queen enters and dismisses him for talking with the princess. The Queen scolds Snow White for talking to the servants in a friendly manner. After the princess leaves, the Queen goes to the looking glass and calls out a chant. The mirror tells her that Snow White has become the fairest face in all the kingdom. The Queen, angered by this, decides to get rid of Snow White. She calls the Huntsman and tells him to take the Princess into the woods to pick flowers and then kill her. To make sure he does the evil deed, the queen wants to see Snow White's heart brought back in a box. The Queen then tells Snow White that she has arranged for her friend, the Hunstman, to take her to the woods tomorrow ("A Path Through The Wood").
The next morning, Snow White is gathering flowers ("A Path Through The Wood" - continued) when the Huntsman draws his knife to kill her. Unable to do the deed, the Huntsman tells Snow White to run away and goes off to kill a deer so he can take its heart to the Queen instead. When he arrives at the castle, the Queen opens the box and is convinced that Snow White is gone at last ("Me Reprise").
Back in the forest, Snow White has found the miners' cottage and has fallen asleep on their bench. When the miners return their noise awakens her. She tells them she is the Princess and that she has escaped the Queen's attempt to kill her. She finds out there are seven miners living at the cottage. In return for their kindness, she decides to help them with their chores ("Happy Helping Hands"). Back at the castle, the Queen, enjoying Snow White's absence, goes to the mirror to recite her chant. She discovers that Snow White is alive deep in the forest and goes off to get rid of the Princess herself.
Meanwhile at the cottage, the miners, getting ready to leave for work, tell Snow White to stay in the cottage and not to talk to any strangers or let anyone in while they are gone. The Queen, disguised as a lace seller, arrives at the cottage. Snow White decides to come out of the cottage to try some laces ("Pretty Little Laces"). The Queen pulls the lace so tight that Snow White can't breathe and she faints. When the miners come home, they discover Snow White on the ground. They notice the new lace and loosen it so she can breathe. When she awakens they realize the old woman was the Queen and decide to make a plan to keep Snow White safe.
The Queen, thinking Snow White is finally gone, calls again to the mirror. She hears that her plan has failed and the Princess is still alive. Again she plans to get rid of Snow White forever, but this time with a poisoned apple ("Magic Potion").
[If the show is done in TWO Acts, Intermission goes here.]
The next day, the miners, getting ready for work, think someone should stay with SnowWhite, but she convinces them that she is safe inside the cottage and will not open the door for anyone. The miners leave for work ("Hum-Hum, Diddle-Dum"). Disguised as an old beggar woman carrying a basket of apples, the Queen knocks on the door, but no one answers. Snow White looks out the window and the old woman asks her to come outside to show her the way to the village. Snow White will not come out and explains that the miners will be home soon and they will help her. The old woman offers Snow White an apple for her kindness. The Queen takes a bite of an apple so Snow White will think it is all right to take one ("Appetizing Apples (Pretty Little Laces Reprise)"). When Snow White bites into her apple, she collapses leaning over the window sill. The Queen hides as the miners return. They find the apple on the ground and discover Snow White in the window. They realize the apple has been poisoned. They are too late to save the Princess.
Back at the castle, the Queen is enjoying Snow White's demise. But when she calls the mirror she is told that because of her evilness her looks will be gone now as well. When she looks into the mirror she is horrified by the terrible looking face she now has and flees the kingdom forever.
In the forest, the miners are standing by Snow White, admiring her beauty. Prince Blackwell enters looking for the beautiful princess. He cradles her in his arms and kisses her ("The Love I Never Knew"). The kiss dislodges the piece of apple stuck in Snow White's throat and she awakens. The miners tell her of the Queen's evil deed and the Prince asks her to be his bride and come live in his castle where the miners will always be welcome. They will live happily ever after ("Now I Know").
