ADVENTURES IN TOYLAND
The newest of our MUSICAL SHOWS for KIDS, Adventures In Toyland was first produced in 2014.
It has the distinction of being the first of our shows that is NOT based on a classic children's story.
SYNOPSIS
A young boy faces his nightmarish dreams with the help of his toys in the playroom. See what happens when Pirate Pete, Princess Ballerina, and the other toys come to life to help their friend journey around the world, without ever leaving the playroom.
While everyone in the house sleeps, the toys in the playroom come to life ("A Doll's Life"). The toys belong to Michael and Jen who are brother and sister. Michael has been having trouble sleeping because he has been having nightmares that wake him up every night. Mom and Dad are tired of him waking them up in the middle of the night and older sister Jen has been teasing him endlessly. This night Michael decides to hide in the playroom since he can't sleep. The toys hear Michael's problems and come to life to help him face the fear of his nightmares head on ("The Mind's Eye").
Using their imaginations and various things in the playroom, Pirate Pete, Princess Ballerina, Captain Combat and Rag Doll take Michael on exciting adventures through a remote jungle ("Wild Things"), the high seas ("Hooray For The Pirate's Booty"), a stormy deserted island ("Scared Silly") and even outer space ("Moon Rockin'").
As dawn approaches, their adventures come to a close ("Dance Your Way Back Home"), with Michael realizing that the toys have helped him face his fears to gain the self confidence and self esteem that will end his nightmares and sleepless nights. As the sun begins to rise, Michael returns to bed and the toys return to their inanimate state for a new day ("Mind's Eye Reprise").

PRODUCTION REQUIREMENTS
CASTING: 2F / 3M*
CHARACTERS:
RAG DOLL - cuddly but clumsy, and a bit absent-minded
CAPTAIN COMBAT - the "army man," a natural leader
PIRATE PETE - seafaring, swashbuckling action figure
BALLERINA - pretty-in-pink, dancing doll
MICHAEL - a real, human boy
SETTING:
The show takes place entirely in Michael's "playroom", with the various locations of the characters' adventures being created by the toys and items in the room.
In the original production, the set consisted of oversized walls and furniture, a toy box and several alphabet-type building blocks.
Special set consideration: an oversized kids' "tablet"-type toy with a screen for projecting images.
* All of our shows are written for small casts, but most are flexible for larger casts and could possibly include an ensemble. Some roles can switch between male and female with minor adjustments to the script. Please inquire for suggestions on alternative casting.
